Beyond awesome.
Beyond awesome.
I feel like getting a brake from dancing Tango. But simply watching this makes me realize how foolish that mere hypothesis is… The range of emotions evoked just by watching this clips has no boundaries.

Unfortunately I cannot ignore them all with a single click.
Hydrocalypse industries (shout out to my lab mates Christina Agapakis and Patrick Boyle!) has done a funny video of Ginko Bioworks, a start-up spearheaded by Tom Knight (MIT).
You can read more about it here. Christina’s blog is called Oscillator, hosted at ScienceBlogs .
The other surprise at Photokina was the new Sigma SD1.

Everyone that has seen photos taken with Foveon (note the date on that article, 2002, 8 years ago!) cameras has realized that the pictures are slightly different, more sharp and defined. I’ve been wanting to get a foveon based camera for a while now but they’re still just too expensive. I was looking for a Sigma DP1 or DP2, the non-DSLR version of it. But (US) ebay hasn’t been on my side.
The great thing about this release is not really the camera. The great thing is that Sigma clearly shows that it’s still developing the technology. The whole problem with foven cameras has always been everything around the sensor. Crappy electronics, image processing and not being easy to put different lens on it.
Here’s hope that this bigger (APS-C) and newer generation foveon will get it back on the radar again.
So it turns out that it should come out around March 2011 (my birthday is in march as I’m sure you all know) and for about 1000-1300$us.
This camera makes every nostalgic photographer fall in love. How can anyone resist that?
It’s also not very big, in fact, it’s a perfect size for the vintage like feeling one is going for.
Here’s an interview with someone with a say during the whole process:

This is from Columbia Business School’s international student’s orientation.
Love the white sneakers and t-shirt under the shirt bits. :-)
I don’t believe in the race.
